Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

In reading this wonderful verse, it’s important to keep in mind—according to the context of the verse—what “good” refers to. It’s not the good of material or soulish blessings that we may want the Lord to give us; it’s the good of becoming full-grown sons of God.

It’s that we would be “conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brothers” (v. 29).

God faithfully works all things, arranging our circumstances and environments, so that we would grow as believers unto full maturity, together expressing Christ on the earth as His Body.

This process isn’t always comfortable. But if our vision is clear, we can bridge the disconnect between what we naturally think of as “good” and the good of the fulfillment of God’s purpose.

Then, we can speak to the Lord in the words of this song our resolution: “I choose to remain under Your dispensing.”

We choose to remain, to abide, in the Lord and in His love (John 15:4-5, 9). We choose to contact God in His Word, day by day. We choose to open to the Lord’s supply of Himself as grace and to live in His presence.

If we open to Him, trusting in His loving heart toward us, He will grow in us gradually, little by little, bringing us on to maturity as full-grown sons of God.
