God created the earth for the sake of His eternal purpose that He would be expressed through a corporate man, the church, the Body of Christ. Presently, however, both the earth and mankind have been usurped by God’s enemy, Satan. Thus, although “The earth is Jehovah’s, and its fullness, / The habitable land and those who dwell in it” (Psalm 24:1), we see the earth engulfed in lawlessness and under the sway of the evil one.
The outward situation is bleak, but looking with eyes of faith we can see that God is still carrying out His economy, His plan to fulfill His eternal purpose. In His plan, God first became a man and died to redeem us back to His original intention; then, He resurrected to become a life-giving Spirit in order to enter into us, be our life, and make us one with Him. Now, He needs us to offer Him our cooperation.
The Bible speaks of some among the believers in Christ who give the Lord their full cooperation, allowing Him to transform them into His image so that they corporately express Him and move with Him as His Body. These believers, the overcomers, will provide a beachhead for the Lord as the King of glory to return and claim His right and title over the earth.
To be an overcomer, we must pray according to God’s desire, even simple, short prayers like this:
- “Lord, make me an overcomer.”
- “Lord, transform me into Your glorious image.”
- “Lord, gain the overcomers who will meet Your need and bring You back as the King of glory.”
